Subsets of T lymphocytes regulate the effector mechanisms of the immune responses through the production of distinct patterns of cytokines. The subsets of T cells termed Th1(T helper type 1) cells, which produce IL-2 and IFN-¥ã, are important for
cell
mediated-immunity. In contrast, Th2 cells produce IL-4, IL-5, and IL-10, which contribute to the enhancement of humoral immunity.
